Keith Gundy is 27-year veteran with the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority (Denver, CO) and has served as the Hazardous Materials Team coordinator since 1997. Keith started in the fire service in 1974 in Iowa becoming an EMT in 1975 and in 1976 was one of the first Emergency Rescue Technician instructors in the state teaching high angle rescue, trench rescue and auto extrication.
After finishing paramedic school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1981 he worked for A-1 ambulance in Boulder, Colorado. Keith was hired by Castlewood Fire in 1982 and has taught EMT-B and Paramedic Refresher classes as well as CPR, Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS), and Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS). He was instrumental in starting the South Metro wildland team and served as its first coordinator. In 1996 Keith was in charge of the operations of the EMS Division, running the day to day activities and EMS training.
Keith has been a hazardous materials technician since 1994 and is certified in Incident Command as well as being a certified Highway Emergency Response Specialist. Keith has taught many operations and technician level haz mat classes to Denver South Metro Fire and the Arapahoe/Douglas county hazmat response teams. He is certified in ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800. He served on the advisory committee for the first Metropolitan Medical Response System (MMRS) equipment acquisition for the Denver Metro Area. Keith holds an AAS in Fire Science Technology from Red Rocks Community College.
